Client: Gone West

Gone West was an American country pop group composed of Colbie Caillat, Justin Young, Jason Reeves, and Nelly Joy whose music brought “a new freshness to modern country, straddling singer/songwriter vulnerability, Iowan humility, Lone Star tenacity and Hawaiian steel guitar.” With Grasshorse’s creative insight, “Caillat‘s band [gave] their fans something fun to watch and listen to” as the “Slow Down” music lyric video released during early stages of COVID-19 lockdown. Telling the story of two people falling in love as they roadtrip through beautiful landscapes and other favorite summer activities, Grasshorse and Gone West collaborated to create something that appealed to that beautiful experience. 

Pondering the lyrics, we played with the idea of a romance between a couple of fireflies who paralleled the main couple in the song. They became the 'yellow light', a manifestation of the love of the main couple. The lyric video was animated in Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe Animate, and Adobe After Effects.  Backgrounds were illustrated traditionally in graphite and colored in Adobe Photoshop.
