There are essential tools to participate with projects on the Grasshorse Animation Studio Website. We have done our best to accept as many programs as possible for as many departments as possible so as to include as many Artists as possible. However, some departments have less alternatives than others, and require the newest version of specific software. In time, if we can expand the pipeline to accept alternate programs, we will.

3D Modeling

We would like to strongly encourage all Character Modelers to use ZBrush 3.0 and/or Maya Unlimited 2008.

Other 3D Modelling programs that can be used are; Blender , or any 3D program that can output the .obj file format.

Texture Painting

We would like to strongly encourage texture artists to use ZBrush 3.0. Other image creation and manipulation software that can be used are Cinepaint, Combustion, Gimp, Painter or Photoshop..

A 3D packages is also necessary. Any program that can open the .obj file formats is acceptable. We recommend ZBrush 3.0 and/or Maya Complete 2008.

Shading, Character Animation, Mel Programming and 3D Particle Systems

Shading, Character Animation, Mel Programming and 3d Particle Systems Artists must use Maya Complete 2008 3D animation software.

    Hair and Fur, Cloth Simulation and Lighting

Hair and Fur, Cloth Simulation and Lighting Artists must use Maya Unlimited 2008 3D animation software.

Matte Painting

Matte Painting Artists must image creation and manipulation software, such as Cinepaint, Combustion, Gimp, Painter or Photoshop.

Compositing, Paint, Rotoscoping and 2D Particle Systems

Compositing, Paint, Rotoscoping and 2d Particle Systems must maintain a legal, fully functional copy of Combustion compositing software.

All artists must register with one of the three chat softwares, AIM, iChat, or Skype, before registering on this site.
