Our boutique of client services complement the television and motion picture industry, providing our clients with the individual attention they deserve. Whether its developing a main title sequences, visual effects or revising pre-existing animation, we deliver the best possible imagery in the business. We are the problem solvers. "With a difficult schedule and a tight budget. Grasshorse delivered above and beyond my expectations." Genndy Tartakovsky Producer/Director Star Wars: Clone Wars Genndy Tartakovsky, the Producer and Director for Cartoon Network's television series Star Wars: Clone Wars needed a stylized animation sequence. He entrusted Grasshorse with the project. The sequence called for a caveman painting on a wall that would come to life and foreshadow Anakin Skywalkers fall to the dark side. Provided with X-Sheets and the key artwork, Grasshorse got started modeling, rigging and animating 3D characters, seamlessly integrating them with the accompanying hand drawn animation. Once all of the 3D and 2D animation was completed, the images were composited into the scene with a singular sweeping camera movement to capture all the action for the full seventy second sequence "There are only a few utensils I need. I need pencils. I need paper. I need Grasshorse. They have become an integral part of every production I work on." Paul Stec Art Director Power Puff Girls Paul Stec, the Art Director for the Power Puff Girls, LIVES out of the box. A show he was working on needed to create the look of a documentary with hand held camera work. Since this effect couldn't be created traditionally, he called Grasshorse. We decided the best course of action would be 25 building facades, hand painted on art board to match the style of the show. We then modeled the buildings geometry to suit in Maya. We could use these buildings like Legos, combining and recombining them in different layouts to create an entire city. This technique proved so successful we integrated this digital city into the shows standard operating procedure. Many shows utilized the digital city to create dynamic fly-throughs, seamlessly fitting into their hand drawn 2D world. The digital city provided quick scene layouts that could then be hand painted and used for a painted background. We pushed the boundaries and it worked marvelously. Chris Savino, the Show Runner for Warner Brother's Johnny Test, knew that he wanted something special for the Show Opener for their new television series. He wanted a KISS-like rock show where Johnny Test and his dog performed on stage in front of an illuminated sign, pyrotechnics, and fireworks to create an over-the-top effect. Chris was also interested in volumetric lighting effects, re-timing animation, color correction, and a final polish for the remainder of the sequence. We are proud that we could provide that for Chris, and look forward to working with him and Warner Brothers again. "Their expertise guarantees us that they will take our concepts and execute them with professionalism and quality." Chris Savino Show Runner Johnny Test With the release of the Grasshorse Virtual Animation Studio, Grasshorse is revolutionizing the world of animation by focusing on a creative environment where artists can work together for a common goal and share in the rewards. Top quality work, artistic opportunity and a creative flexible atmosphere are our standards. We are striving toward a day where talented artists can support themselves by working as much as they want, when they want, from where they want. "Thanks for making Johnny Test one of the coolest main titles we've seen! It rocks!" David Wiebe Director of Development The Kid's WB (Warner Brothers) Welcome to Grasshorse, an animation studio revolutionizing the industry through our dedication to creating jaw-dropping animation and honing artist skills through unparalleled opportunities. Inspired by Linux and the Open Source software movement, Stephen Jennings, the President of Grasshorse, created an animation company in the same fashion. Here at Grasshorse, we want the artist to grow. We want you to try new things and have the work to show for it. Have you always wanted to get into a facet of computer animation but couldn't? This website is for you. We break down all of the tasks of creating an animation into manageable sized units, similar to Hollywood animation studios. This allows you, the artist, to do an assignment that is manageable in size, giving you more experience in the department you are interested in. Do you want to be a Modeler? Get right to modeling. What if you want to do many different tasks? Thats great! Explore all the departments within our studio. You can build your demo reel with great looking, dynamic shots. How do you get paid? Think of this project as Venture Capital. Grasshorse offers profit sharing* where, with the completion of each assignment, the artist will receive a Production Point(s) for the project(s) they work on. These points will be deposited into a credit bank and be stored under the respective production. Should the production you contributed to return a profit, you will share in it. Meanwhile, by building your career and getting experience, demo reel material and credits, you have the potential for getting out of it what you put into it. That said, no artist should enter into a project with the expectation of making money. The greatest reward is the experience and the material generated from it. Before registering please check our Requirements to confirm your eligiblilty. If you are interested in becoming a Member, please... We look forward to working with you soon! Please feel free to browse our Studio and see work in progress! * Profit Sharing is currently only offered to Citizens and Legal Residents of the United States. Grasshorse Virtual Animation Studio has launched! Many exciting events are happening around here at Grasshorse Studios! As of March 1st 2006, our Virtual Animation Studio is LIVE. This is a project that we have been working feverishly to bring to you. It is a revolutionary concept that that will bring digital artists together to work on a common goal. Animating! We have selected our first production, a short screenplay entitled "The Shimmering". It is a story about a being that can change shape at whim, who haunts an immortal Knight guiding him to his destiny. We are getting very close to starting production and we couldn't be more excited. 2008 Olympics Mascots We worked with Titmouse for a promotional film that introduces the 2008 Olympic Mascots to the Chinese Marketplace. We focused solely on compositing the beginning and ending sequences. Special attention was needed for the compositing and animation of the beginning sequence. We worked from rough line tests and painted artwork to create a pastoral scene of kites darting and dancing over the Bejing Skyline. For the end sequence a crowd of children in the shape of all the continents of the world release hundreds of balloons which float up into the sky. Since it was more efficient and would generate better results, we modeled the balloons in Maya and wrote a mel script (Maya programming language) that created the effect of all the balloons being released simultaneously and rising independently on their own random trajectories, all the while maintaining the hand drawn 2D aesthetic.
